Hotsheet 2023

Hot Sheet is an annual exhibition showcasing exceptional, yet lesser-known artists. This group show features work centered around the deconstruction, transformation, and reconfiguration of the photographic medium. Each year, since the show's inception, the selected artists have pushed the boundaries of what would traditionally be recognised as photography. In this third edition, curators Jasper Jones and Lauren Wells invite you to explore the work of eight artists: Isabel Bonafe, Eleonora Agostini, Akane Kawahara, Selina Naouma, Victor Nyberg, Niamh Jones, Gökhan Tanrıöver and Xiangyin Tom Gu.

This years’ artists tackle themes around ‘change’, through their practice of examination and visualisation. Drawing from archives, political contexts, sciences and personal histories the artists play with the medium through a multitude of forms: including sculpture, installation, video, collage and traditional photographic processes. Within this, the viewer is confronted with the multifaceted nature of change – a notion that is constantly shaping our world, yet remains elusive; its effects often felt, but difficult to grasp. Change is a force that permeates every aspect of life.

Through this show these eight artists challenge perception, trigger memory and explore our experience and complex relationship with change.

 Note from the Curators

Choosing 'change' as the theme of the show inspired us to find projects and works that complement each other whilst embodying the metamorphic qualities of photography and change alike. The artists redefine practice, perception, narrative, movement, and the ever-present interaction between the viewer and the work itself.
